Date: July 8th, 2016 4:22 PM Author: Opaque glittery blood rage theater i dunno that she was defrauding anyone. that might be giving her too much credit. i think she just figured if she got the right people on board (and a bunch of government cronies on the board), marketed herself as a strong independent business woman, and had access to the right financing, she would just be able to market her crappy products on facebook as the next BREAKTHROUGH IN SCIENCE and no one would question it. if the sciency stuff got tricky, just hire someone who knows maff and sciency stuff to handle the maff and sciency stuff. all while getting rich. not that different than any other bs in modern american capitalism.
but thats just my understanding. there might have been legit securities marketing fraud involved too. |

Theranos claims it has invented magical blood testing technology X. There is already a well-proven, highly accurate, but invasive and costly technology Y. Theranos ran their own internal tests of the same blood samples through tech X and tech Y, and the results from tech X were all fucked up and did not match Y, so they knew there was a serious problem. To obtain regulatory approval for tech X, Theranos needed to submit to regulators copies of their blood test results from tech X along with the accompanying blood samples, so the agency could see if tech X matches up with results from well-tested technologies (tech Y). The allegation is that Theranos instead submitted results and samples that were run through tech Y and claimed that they were generated from their own proprietary tech X. So they lied to cover up the fact that their tech X was sps, in hopes of gaining regulatory approval to distribute their sps technology across the country. If that had happened, they would have fucked over a lot of people by giving them faulty blood test results.
Or to put it in more basic terms, Holmes got the answer key to the midterm and used it to get an A+ on the exam. Everyone thought she was very smart. But like most cheaters, her fraud caught up with her. |
