them? lots of Gen-Xers seem very intelligent, reasonable, knowledgable about how things work and ought to work. Yet they let boomers manipulate them and control them.

Millenials sound 1/3 as intelligent, reasonable, knowledgable but have managed to pwn boomers, and not give in to Global Captalism.

They literally bought the boomer myth that if you work hard enough, go to school, get good grades, follow the rules, then you'll be rewarded.

When you say they sound very "Intelligent, reasonable, knowledgeable, etc", where are you getting that info from? Just your personal opinion?

gen-x lacks SPIRIT and WILL. the boomers were full of spirit, which allowed them to shove the WWII generation right out of the way by the time the boomers were entering their 40's in the 1980's.

gen-x does not have that kind of personal will. gen-x is more of a caretaker/functionary generation that takes orders. and the boomers have never stopped GIVING orders, so...

olds were SCARED of the boomers, too. the boomers were willful to the point of violence at times.

nobody is scared of or intimidated by gen-x. gen-x would rather shoot heroin and pass out than get into a fight with boomers over who gets to run the country.

cr.

this is a subject that i have analyzed a lot.

the dynamic of the GI Gen/Boomers was weird. the GI Gen was full of insecurity, envy, fear, incomprehension of Boomers. the Boomers were like a new race in the eyes of older generations: they were just so much more physically healthy, affluent, educated, energetic, sociopathic, than anything that had ever existed before. they were like 'Supermen', compared to the run-down, rickety GI Gen, who were sapped mentally and physically by the Depression, WW2, etc.

they just submitted to Boomers, more or less.

that study yesterday about the declining average height of americans seems to tie into this. boomers are in many cases simply physically-larger than those who have come after them, even if they are now older. and that alone has a psychological effect in the workplace, etc.

precisely. just looking at the typical WW2/Boomer/Gen-Y family portrait triptych, you see how this played out.

WW2 Grandfather is 5'8", stooped from 1930s malnourishment, even in his prime.

Boomer Dad looks like Jeff Bridges

the kid looks like Michael Cena

this is how it works. families go thru generational cycles of decline/enfeeblement. this was a big theme in fin de siecle literature. ascent-->peak-->decline.

one other important factor is that boomers simply had less loyalty in a lot of ways. the WWII generation, on a man-to-man level, was pretty tough. many of those guys were combat veterans who had done manual labor for much of their lives. they grew up back when getting into "scraps" was no big deal, even if you had some teeth knocked out in the process.

the question sometimes posed is, why didn't that toughness seem to serve as a barrier against the boomers?

partly because of family and community loyalties. the old notion that you're not supposed to "go against kin," almost no matter what. when their kids told them to step aside, they swallowed their doubts and took it to some extent as a form of duty - one generation passing on the torch.

boomers don't have that loyalty. they didn't see themselves as the temporary guarantors of the torch of civilization; they just wanted the damn thing as a status symbol, and they won't let go of it until they are dead.

Cr. The boomers are purely sociopathic resource sucking pigs. They never even understood their parents' generation - who embodied the 'traditional' values of their civilization.

For circumstantial psychological reasons, the boomers 'rebelled' without comprehending what they rebelled against. They are a 'blind spot' on the timeline of western civilization/consciousness.

Most any full grown man in his late twenties/early thirties, of respectable upbringing, some affluence, with a decent career, who works out even, and is in good solid physical shape will not go out of his way to signify his manliness if two, wiry and energetic, but shady-looking teenage males are walking towards him on the street when they all happen to be of similar height, because he knows they can, together, inflict more injury on him than he can on them, if the shit were to hit the fan and everyone were convinced, or deluded as of immaturity, into thinking that he were fighting for his very life. Animal instincts. The reason they were called boomers was because they were part of a population explosion that resulted in there turning up, by a significant margin, more youth running round (who also happened to be relatively spoiled, enjoying, as they were, the blush of youth at a time right after the US had just kicked the world's ass for a second time in as many generations). BOOMERS, HAVING COME FROM A LARGER HERD, AND UNDERSTOOD THEIR NUMERICAL SUPERIORITY, ALWAYS WILL BE BULLIES AND PUNKS. They did not breed as prolifically as their parents did, so, the boomers' offspring were a smaller generation and, as such, easier to control.
