Date: September 24th, 2020 3:45 AM Author: Vigorous gay sanctuary generalized bond repeat offenders often don't get jail time and there's zero point in arresting those people if they're just going to be back on the street the next day shooting up. homeless addicts who've been arrested multiple times should be sent to mandatory inpatient. one century ago they'd just be left to rot in a jail cell. allowing hard drug use and homeless populations to boom in cities across the nation isn't safe or humane. a city can't be sustain itself when there's no guarantee of security for law-abiding, tax-paying citizens.
(also- since you added more to your poast since i replied- i never suggested forcible injections. i'm suggesting mental health treatment and an environment where homeless addicts can safely go through withdrawals and be provided with training/resources for getting their lives back on track). |

Date: September 24th, 2020 4:02 AM Author: Vigorous gay sanctuary generalized bond no, i bartended at a dive bar when i was in grad school and i called homeless shelters countless times to see if drunks/addicts were still able to get a bed there. my professor ironically was a regular there and told me about the job and we'd chat there but it was a really gritty place. i had to train a girl who got fired for shooting up in the kitchen-- her fiance died due to drugs and she lost custody of their two kids. she actually got high at the end of one of sessions where i was training her but i gave her the benefit of the doubt and assumed she was using one of those meds that people take to withdraw from opioids. she got high just out of my sight (i witnessed her almost falling over and clearly being high although i was too naive at that time to realize it until after she got fired and there were needles found in the kitchen) multiple other times. i had to guard the bathroom because so many people came by trying to shoot up in the bathrooms. large groups of homeless would hang out at the bus hub a few blocks away and you couldn't walk more than two blocks without homeless asking for money. the woman who trained me also had to go in to some center to get her withdrawal meds and was probably still using. it seemed like every poor person was hooked on drugs. i could recount a dozen more experiences i had with homeless drug addicts while working downtown. i went to college in a rural area and worked jobs at a cafe and restaurant during my time there and witnessed how people in those areas- young people especially- are destroying their lives with drugs. multiple coworkers (some who seemed unsuspecting on the surface) were fired for stealing from the register to support their habits. that'd happen then you'd hear from someone else what was really going on behind the scenes. people had nothing to look forward to but doing drugs after work. i'll refrain from sharing more detailed stories about people i knew. |
