The media gives such people no publicity or bad publicity or good publicity. Such publicity, given by the corporate media, sets up the reputation of that public figure.
once said candidates and elected officials are either no longer running for office or are out of office, their reputation has already been set by the corporate media.
THEN these public figures are able to CAPITALIZE on the publicity/reputation the media has given them.
The payoff, the capitalization, comes in the form of speaking and corporate board membership. If the politicians or candidates are not looked upon favorably by the media, then the capitalization is worth little.
The media is currently demonizing trump as they have never demonized anyone before. Not even close. If trump loses this race and leaves public life, he will not reap rich speaking fees or board memberships. even if he manages to win against this tide of media demonization, he will not be able to reap much in the way of speaking fees, etc.
