i've always taken the approach that "if it's on tv, they meant for you to see it, it was a work". how they didn't show the nimrod who can into the ring last week. they kept the angles, went back to it, ref didn't jump out the ring under dead cam for the X (saw this at nxt)...it's a work. a dumb one, definitely.

Even on first viewing before I knew the finish, I thought it looked like Orton was sandbagging (being dead weight) on the German duplexes, and it looked like Brock might have been a little pissed and working him stiffer than normal on the corner strikes.

I don't doubt that it was scripted that Brock was supposed to bust Orton open with ground strikes. I also don't doubt that it was an accident that Orton bled THAT much. They didn't even bust people open like that during the attitude era. Now the elbow that did it . . . we'll never know if it was a pure accident that it did more damage than intended, or if Brock wanted to punish Orton with a solid hit for sandbagging but then realized there was a lot more blood than expected. However, we know that once Orton got opened up, Brock switched from legit MMA strikes (probably not full force though) to fake as fukk wrestling punches. We also don't know if they prematurely went to the finish due to Orton being busted open.

Basically, it's clear that the severity of damage to Orton was either an accident or slightly intentional accident. I personally think Brock was a bit pissed at Orton but immediately regretted it when he saw the damage.

I didn't see SummerSlam but what they showed on Raw last night I'd say worked angle. They've done this same angle with Lesnar and Cena and others. Plus he attacked Shane McMahon when he tried to help Orton. Last night they said Lesnar had "crossed the line" and there would be "serious consequences."

In the past that's been an "indefinite suspension" to cover for why Lesnar is never on TV. His contract is for only a handful of matches a year, usually the big PPVs and some TV leading up to them. I'm sure we'll see Orton vs. Lesnar again in the fall.
