With the recent thread about RCP going down, it's got me thinking. I pulled a hamstring a few months ago and still not back to 100%. Thinking about putting down the bar for good..... Risk / reward doesn't seem to be there.

What do you do for hamstrings/glutes? Considering doing this but mixing in some RDLs (with lighter weights) and lunges

you can deadlift for decades more, you just have to lift a little lighter than you can manage, you still benefit even if you don't max out and build more muscle

Whoever the dude who writes Lift-Run-Bang said something that stuck with me--if you're not a competitive powerlifter, there's no reason for you to lift over 93% of your max ever. Maxing out is mostly just for ego--you can gauge progress nearly as well by tracking your 3RM or 5RM max as your 1RM max.

Might be a good idea to always leave a rep or two in the tank with DL, but that's easier said than done if you like to see your lifts go up every week.

I fucked up my hamstring on the 8th rep of a set (obviously) way below my 1RM. Although not nearly as bad as a back injury in the scheme of things, it majorly sucked and I still feel it in that leg when I try to deadlift. Everything I've read about hamstring injuries says that you will be very prone to get re injured do to the scar tissue that forms.

I cut back on my lifting like a year ago. I was 32. I do a few fewer sets and with like 15lbs less weight. Not worth the inevitable injury.

I've said t before here - deadlifting **heavy** weight for a non-professional-athlete desk jockey over the age of 30 is playing with fire - bad injury bound to happen sometime even with careful form
