If child IQ is just a normal distribution with average equal to mid parental IQ, then a 140 IQ child is as likely as a 120 IQ. To say that this is wrong because of how normal distributions is missing the point that fucklaw is arguing there's no regression.
it seems that fucklaw was arguing there is no regression mean because he hasn't seen the data that shows it. In which case his argument wasn't dumb, just based on bad premises
Does heritability < 1 imply some sort of regression to the mean? That's not obvious to me but maybe that's what people were saying is dumb |

yes it does. if some portion of your IQ isn't heritable, it means the typical high-IQ person has some non-heritable positive IQ effects in addition to heritable positive IQ effects. so the expected trait value for their offspring will be lower. |
