Read the article and watch the video. It shows what I proposed is the typical black male interaction with police and explains much of the mistrust.
1) Misidentificaiton
2) Officer failure to folllow protocal and arguably law
3) A person "resists" because they didn't do anything and don't feel they have to submit to commands if they didn't do anything.
4) Cops immediately get collective lie together.
5) Guy still gets charged for obstruction or resisting when he should have never been approached.
6) Cops claims guy looks like someone else (he doesn't) because you know all black people look alike.
How, as a rationale person, does this not make your blood boil?

black people did this to themselves. if a suspect could just lie about his name after fitting the description and have the cops walk away, they would all lie to the police. MUH NAME PATRICK, I DIDN'T DO NUFFIN!
dude should've just shown some fucking ID

If he would've reached for id, he would've been shot.
Why can't the cop say, i have a warrant for X, are you telling me you aren't X?
Guy says yes, here is my id.
Why is the onus on the citizen who has not done anything and not the government official?

it gets tricky around (3) because even if you think the cops are making a mistake in detaining you there is zero chance that trying to resist them is in your interest unless you really think you can fight them off and are prepared to live your life as a fugitive rather than getting their mistake straightened out. unless want to tell people they are allowed to fight back against the cops if they think they really don't deserve to be arrested
of course there is some subjectivity in what counts as "resisting arrest" as well that complicates this
