Live off 4% = 32K.
1K per month rent, $600 food, $600 misc.
Leaves about $6K a year for travel around France and Europe. Maybe 1 flight to US a year.

yeah, it's like they inhabit a different dimension
when i describe my plan for financial independence people generally react as if it's something impossible, like implementing the blueprint for some theoretical time machine
then they return to complaining about their job/talking about buying some expensive new car

99% of you poasters with your "I'll just retire in my 30's by moving to a cheaper country" are pure flame. Normal people don't run away from their family and social circle to an isolated locale halfway around the world where they don't know anyone, where no one really speaks English and where no one they knew previously will ever visit them, just so they can save a few thousand bucks a year.
Living above a Vietnamese brothel or the "south of France" sounds romantic in theory but I would wager that most of the tiny minority of people who actually make that kind of move end up back to the states after a year or two. These kind of trips are de facto sabbaticals, not long term life choices.

it's a mindset, not a specific destination
u don't have to go abroad; i will likely stay in greenwich my entire life
the larger point is that prioritizing time and control over ur life, at the price of being able to buy material things, is a worthwhile tradeoff
