bowing out is a terrible, terrible risk-reward trade-off for trump. if he bows out, he loses power, prestige and will not be rewarded in any way for "doing the right thing". in fact, once out and down, his enemies and "friends" will pull out their knives. his downside is definite and significant, with no imaginable benefit to himself (but significant benefit to the gop and conservatives in general).
if he stays, he may win, in which case trump wins it all. he becomes the most powerful man in the world, will almost certainly become vastly richer because who wouldn't want to do business with the family of the president of the us, and he will be able to fuck over his enemies, who are many. if trump loses, his downside is almost certainly greater than if he had bowed out in that the gop will harbor extremely bitter feelings for his destroying a golden chance to win the white house and push forward their agenda. however, i can't imagine the downside would be that much greater than if he bowed out. |
