as a sort of low rent settlement mill scam, yeah

you're not going to get rich off of it, but seems like it could be something to keep the lights on

solos who make it big, do so through a CONTINGENCY PRACTICE

like one successful wrongful death case can turn you into a millionaire

you're paid out of the settlement or verdict money you win for your client, typically 1/3 of the total amount

depending on how much work you spend on a case, this can be extremely lucrative

it can take a while to build up this kind of practice, and you're not going to get paid right away, so doing stuff like DUIs where the client pays you up front can supplement things

crim law in general is like this

all of my PI friends who went solo have to do random work (crim, collections, landlord tenant, etc) to "keep the lights on" while they do their contingency work. It can sometimes take years for a PI case to resolve and receive payment.

depends on the practice area and where you live

i would probably never want to just start a solo contingency practice from scratch

the cr path to me seems to be work at a really good Pl firm---> break off into your own firm

explain working together on a DUI case. You are literally trying to show in court how a cop fucked up in his traffic stop and field tests. Must be embarrassing for them to lose. Seems like you would be a major pain in their ass.
