still a law student here, but what do gov agencies/departments look for (practice area, grades, experience, etc.)? if I go to a firm, likely will be doing transactional work.

yeah, fuck it dude. i've been realizing this is all flame. i just prefer big fed over in-house jobs for stability, hours, pension, and (likely false) sense of 'public service'

but like i said, i think this endless striving, sense of career, status seeking, etc. is all flame, brother.

experience probably matters most, except for the most prestigious jerbs (I interned at the AUSA office in DC and about every lawyer there was HYS/ivy league undergrad/multiple clerkships/few years in biglaw). I don't think most agencies care about prestige.

I worked a summer at the National Archives and everyone there was from a TTT, except the general counsel (went to yale). one guy was a fed lifer who decided to go to law school at U Baltimore and got hired into the OGC's office.

actually, more than experience your race and any disability you might have, as well as veteran status, carries a huge amount of weight. if you are a crippled black veteran bottom of your class at Cardozo you are golden.
