Do you know what noob gains are?

That's basically all from CNS adaptation. Your muscles and CNS adapt to lifting heavier things. A lot of your initial strength gains are from that and not from building new muscle.

Yeah but you should hit a baseline, above where you were "untrained" at least. I had a neck injury and nerve damage from skiing and cant really lift anymore but once or twice a year ill do bench to see

Go look at the combine stats. Less than half are putting up more than 20 reps. A lot of those guys could have somewhat poor endurance and be better in lower rep ranges.
