because the average dude can't possibly be expected to independently verify every modern "scientifically proven"* truism for himself (or at least cannot live a conventionally successful life if he does so), he is forced, to some extent, to take the professionals, the academics and their institutions at their word. this reliance on others for truth/knowledge can be productive to the extent that (a) he recognizes that his understanding of such truth/knowledge is only secondary and discounts it appropriately and (b) he uses the surplus time and mental resources freed up from outsourcing his thinking to pursue his own social/economic advantages. the reliance on the science of others becomes destructive, however, if he overestimates his understanding and wastes his surplus energy (i.e., in the worst case, he becomes a proper shitlib who "DESTROYS" arguments with his encyclopedic knowledge of studies he half-read on the internet). this is not a novel concept, i know, but i never studied epistemology or philosophy in college and am only coming to these conclusions on my own in my late 20s as an unhappy lawyer with too many liberal friends who are too certain about the meaning of their lives. please point me to any cr and related scholarship on the above. thank

It's an interesting question. Practically, I try to engage with many different media outlets and find opposing viewpoints to figure out what's really going on.

You can only know yourself; theres no direct access to anything else.

But you can't know yourself, because there will always be a gap between you & your knowledge - that is, the you that knows yourself is bigger than the yourself your you knows.

But you can know yourself at t - 1.

However, you can't prove what you know - that self is gone.

However, a partner can prove you exist and vice versa

...

So by splitting up proving and knowing b/t partners who take turns (and between them have knowledge and proof), we can reach understanding
