Our culture is completely different from that of real engineers and of scientists. Sure, we make more money, but most of us are new-money poors with no financial sense and it's believable that most of us blow a lot of money on pointless garbage. It's certainly something that I've seen.
You see the same pattern in the creative industries. There, it's not an issue of lacking culture, but they usually have no financial sense because they're either making $50k per month or $0 per month, and it's usually zeros. (Tech isn't quite as bad, but people do get fired for stupid reasons a lot more than in other industries, and because tech companies are run by evil cunts, layoffs get disguised as firings "for performance".) Fluctuations in income like that don't train a person to be sensible. |
