It was supposed to be about a normal decent dood who becomes "bad." Except he didn't really become bad, he became a fucking rock star McGyver who defeated literal Nazis and sacrificed himself to support his family.
Also a lot of it just made no sense. Like why did Walt kill Lydia? She never screwed HIM over. She was only a threat to Mike and Gus' guys. Lydia and Walt had a good thing thing with the Czech operation and he made shitloads of ca$h through her. The screenwriters killed her off because the audience wanted it, and because "oooh, ricin." They even tacked on a scene where Walt calls her up and trolls her about it. |

He planned to kill Jesse but changed his mind at the last minute once he saw that Jesse was enslaved by the Nazis.
Anyway, they flip-flopped on each character's motivations to gin up more exciting storylines. Jesse's character was by far the worst. At one point he went from wanting to kill Gus for murdering his friend (and that kid) to being loyal to Gus's crew in just a few weeks. |

Minus Cranston? Much less remarkable. The people who think it's the greatest ever tend to not have viewed many other great series.
It's borderline neckbeard and a little hackneyed to cite these shows, but anyone who thinks BB is some kind of cable series POTUS has probably never watched Deadwood, The Sopranos, The Wire, GoT, etc. There are plenty more I could refer to that are contenders.
BB's best recommendation, other than the performers, is that they ended the show in a satisfying way that served the characters and they didn't drag it out needlessly. |
