Any pics from the early years? Maybe he got trapped early on by a chick with an average looking face and banging body. I definitely have a few friends married to near butterfaces that had smoking bodies when they were in their 20s. What's that NYC chick with the big butt that takes pics all over NYC?
Edit: Like a Jen Selter

She didn't marry him for his looks, and if he was just some striving nobody when she married him she probably didn't marry him for his money either.
Hope she's getting a hefty payout in the divorce. So much for loyalty.

So assume we can easily separate the money she earned as a journalist from the money he earned as a hedge fund manager. She gets to keep what she earned and nothing more or less.
What to do about jointly owned properties? Businesses?
Also, going forward, you would advocate for spouses to keep separate accounts so they could be easily separated upon dissolution?
Also, what if the roles were reversed? She was the big money earner and he was the journalist whose career was furthered by association?
What if she (springboarding partially off his connections initially) started a successful company which he wasn't involved in at all? How to separate that?
A 50-50 split is easy and clean and we don't have to get into discussions of "your contributions to the marriage were more worthy than mine".

I didn't read the rest of the article.
It could also be argued that the nonwealthy spouse shouldn't be punished to walk away "with nothing" (not just the money she made from her career while in the marriage) for marrying the wrong partner. After 24 years, you can argue that they gave things a solid go and were the "right partners" until something systemic changed.
Do you discount emotional support and other ways in which a spouse can add value to your life? Do you discount any of the non-financial ways in which people (like your parents, siblings, friends) add value to your life? Do you think that you shouldn't be entitled to your parents' estate and it should go to a charity in their name because you didn't technically contribute to your parents' legacy?

Don't get married if that's your attitude.
I'm scared of shit not working out and some homeboy getting half of what I worked to create, especially if he's divorcing me for some Lithuanian 20yo with a feeble grasp of English.
And I generally agree that if a couple get married and there are no kids or jointly-owned properties, a "what's mine is mine, what's yours is yours" split is perfectly reasonable, especially if both are somewhat later in life and have accumulated their own wealth.
But most people value the non-monetary contributions of their spouse (moral support, blowjobs, back rubs, anything involving the kids) as well as valuing their spouse as an equal in the relationship even if their roles are different, and if shit just doesn't work out (no cheating, no beating) then be amicable grownups.
If you don't like the state's rules re: divorce, contract around them to form a setup that's more appropriate for your values and life situation.

Is love dead?
Let's think about this here. Say some girl pledges her fidelity to you, love-honor-obey style, when you're still some nobody trying to hustle.
After a decade and a half it's clear that things are breaking big in a YUUUUUUGE way for you. You don't want your honey to work (because you don't want her worrying her pretty li'l head over facts and figures) and you love the idea of her spending some of your extra dollars on pretty things that put a big smile on her face. You also want a few Juniors of your own, and also maybe a Junior Miss that you can spoil until she gets married.
Unfortunately, as the marriage reaches its twenty-fifth year, you and her just are finding things harder and harder to work. The young ladies at Fashion Week (people take you to the darndest events to curry favor) are looking younger and younger, and you think you deserve some freedom. But you don't want to step out on the woman who supported you when you were nothing.
So you file for divorce. But she's developed champagne tastes over the years: a flearidden studio in Jackson Heights won't do for her. And no way is she going to move in with her auntie and uncle in Bel-Air.
