also, caltech has like 230 kids per class. that's way less than the number of stem majors at most of the ivies. plus, stem departments dont have to teach classes to non-stem majors either.

My friend was 1600 sat, 5s on 15 APs, plus took two college math courses in high school....and had a 3.1 gpa in physics at caltech.....his math major friends also didn't do great.

tbf a 3.1 in physics at caltech will get you into just about any phd program you want so it doesn't really matter. most of those people aren't too concerned about not making goldman's arbitrary GPA cutoff
