There really isn't an "industry" in Orange County yet Orange County overall has higher income than Los Angeles, higher home prices than Los Angeles, and much better school systems and less crime. People in Orange County don't look for jobs, they create them.

No shit. LA is like mexico city now. It's vast swaths of Mexican poverty surrounded by higher class whites / Asians.

LA's non-Mexicans are much wealthier than OC's non-Mexicans.

I'd rather be in Orange County working for myself and my own small business than working for megacorp in Downtown Los Angeles or Culver City.

And even the Mexicans in Orange County are wealthier than Mexicans in Los Angeles.

No shit. 85% of LA is a massive barrio.

More importantly -- you're desire to define your personal worth through the perceived prestige of Orange County is really pathetic. You need to get that in check. Not healthy.

Tons of MFH bros here just laughing at you so hard.

Your use of OC's prestige as a unit of value is premised on the idea that there is a ranking of places to live. Many many people on xoxo live in much more prestigious places so it's ridiculous for you to go on about OC.

They are using a 1980s/1990s definition of prestige. Newsflash: you're in 2017. The places that were prestigious back then no longer are.

??? Most of Los Angeles County is one huge suburban shithole. Downtown Los Angeles, the only true "city" within LA County is small.

Explain.

this is dumb. nothing about LA is "suburban". it is all urban sprawl. I guess (xo 2017) thinks it isn't a city if the buildings aren't tall or something.

Really don't have the vaguest clue how an area like that creates wealth. I can see there being 1% of the population surrounded by poors but it's like there are these sprawling meccas of people who are somehow rich. You'd think that an income distribution more along the lines of a mexican puebla where the rich have armed guards. Maybe in a generation.

We glamourise SF bay area billionaire genius Engineers and to a lesser extent the finance industry and such, but you have to wonder what cities like L.A. "do" and whether the Great Earthquake is overdue. Rich assholes at the end of the day are probably just assholes who do Bad Things, who happen to have an excellent PR apparatus that convinces ignominious strivers that they are Unworthy and should be happy making $99k with $5000/month rent.

So how many middlemen do there need to be? You're either labor (i.e. a nobody) or you own the means of production. It's an issue of scale. Millions of rich people, yet successful producers are probably as few in number than successful actors.

Movies cost like 10x what they used to as middlemen have proliferated. Now everything has to be based on a proven intellectual property or it doesn't get made.

I suspect the OC has lots of people who meticulously give the appearance of being rich, for example by driving relatively expensive cars, while actually not having a lot of money.
