The concept of an open, public ledger is extremely cool tech, and it will no doubt result in very interesting, if not unimaginable, implementations. I think there is a real possibility that the internet to date, viewed in a post-blockchain world, will bee seen as quaint and a mere prelude to the true networking of society.
It's also going to decimate what's left of genuine, substantive local economic communities. I hate to use pop-culture references, but it is basically going to be like the Dark Mirror episode where people's quantitative score on a social network app determines their opportunities, but much worse. Blockchains will maintain quantitative metrics on all aspects of everyone's life, and these metrics will be applied to determine the privileges and burdens that society bestows on an individual. While this is bad enough, its not the part that is truly terrifying.
Opaque private institutions will also be afforded benefits and privileges based upon its metrics. At first blush, this may seem like a good thing, but there will be fortunes at stake based upon these metrics. As such, private institutions will go to great lengths to "influence" the public's conception of societal norms. If you think the GC influenced SJW agenda is bad today, just wait brothers, it's going to get a hell of a lot worse.
From a more technical, though no less interesting, perspective, blockchain tech will also have an inconceivable effect on various industries' norms and practices. To the extent these norms and practices determine parties' obligations to each other, they will be quantified, measured and published on an "objective" basis. At every step, private institutions will be gaming the system to their benefit, while doing what is necessary to game the public so that their reputation metrics remain acceptable.
I almost concluded with the assertion that "the blockchain" will be God incarnate. This assertion, however, misses the mark, not because it overstates the influence the blockchain will have over humanity. It's going to have the same effect on society as modern transportation, telephones, television, and the internet combined. The blockchain will be antithetical to God because it it will strip all humanity from humanity. It will be Satan incarnate.

Moving to blockchain is going to be disastrous for the world but not for the reasons you identify, but because every hashing algorithm is eventually broken via collision-generation techniques, and once the one used by a given blockchain is, then a malicious entity will be able to rewrite early transactions in a blockchain to forge information
amendment: i mean blockchains that are publicly accessible/writable
bitcoin is going to become really fucked once quantum computers are implemented and become accessible to more than a few giant nations
nb my knowledge of blockchain algos is limited so i could be wrong, and i do mean to look into the tech more because it's right up my alley bc i have a math degree, made my $ in tech, and was once a lolyer
