That's the only reasonable way we are going to cover poors in this country at a very basic level (and somehow or another they need to be covered or they end up fucking shit up more). And then middle and upper class folks can go get more insurance if they want it?

Would kill the health insurance market (and economic growth), but fuck it, right? They are useless blood sucking leaches anyway.

Given where we are, it's probably easier for us transition to some type of government option that operates along side private insurance that is regulated.

I would like that if there's a way to do it while still maintaining a vibrant private healthcare market (whether or not that is insurance based).

There still can be a vibrant private health care market. I'm just talking about the payer, not the payee....

It should squeeze the shit out of hospital bloat though. No reason so many high paid execs are needed for each hospital....

My concern is that if the government-sponsored plan is good enough (from an individual user's perspective), hardly anyone will pay extra for private healthcare/insurance, so there will be a very small market.

No. Let the poors figure out how to care for themselves if they value their lives. You have no right to rob from me so that you can feel like you are helping your inferiors.

that sounds great, but in the end we are all paying for it one way or another....single payer for basic shit will allow you to pay less.

You are currently getting ass raped by the hospitals. Single payer will mean we all will get less ass raped.

Only because hospitals are required to care for the indigent at gunpoint. Why should they be forced to fix someone who intentionally drinks themselves to near death for the 4th time this month?

Yes and no.

Yes, but if some assfuck prole comes in to an emergency room with a fucking FLU or a Strep throat or sprained ankle, turn them away and send them a bill as a penalty. People need to learn that THERE IS NO NEED FOR MEDICAL CARE UNLESS YOU HAVE A SERIOUS INJURY OR ILLNESS. Soft tissue injuries, flus, colds and throat / respiratory infections of any kind are simply NEVER warrant a trip to a doctor unless you're HIV+ or 85 years old.

I also think that any single payer healthy care system or insurance SHOULD NOT should not cover lifestyle illnesses like diabetes or gout.

The first point is tough....who the fucks knows if their flu is just a flu, or really something much worse. That's kind of why we need Doctors.

THERE IS NOTHING SERIOUS AND REASONABLY COMMON THAT MIMICS FLU SYMPTOMS.

Meanwhile, every year 100% of people get the flu (with varying degrees of symptoms).

Even if you go to a hospital early on, they will assume it's a flu. They don't diagnose it as meningitis until you're realllly fucked up beyond what a flu will do.

I'm inconsistent. Not worthwhile for me since I have good flu genetics. I never "get the flu" (Realistically, 100% of people get the flu every year -- it's just a matter of whether they have TTT flu genetics or not).

Yes. And with 100% of those, if you go to the hospital at the time you have "flu like symptoms" they will just assume you have the flu and send you home.

Obviously I'm being hyperbolic. But there is a serious problem with people going to the doctor / clinic / ER for obviously non-serious illness / injury.

Bigger problem is lifestyle-induces chronic illness (eg fatasses and their diabetes).

the real question is how many diseases there are which look like the flu to most people but where a doctor would be able to tell the difference using his standard diagnostic procedures which don't include testing for a bunch of rare diseases which are not the problem 99.99% of the time

also people are going to get MAF at the medical system any time they are misdiagnosed even if the only way to even sort-of prevent that is testing everybody for everything which is economically unfeasible

No.

Employers need to accept that healthy employees are fundamental to their own success. They should be forced to cover employees insurance at 100% employer paid with no deductibles (only manageable $100 copays).

And if they layoff an employee, they should continue to pay for their insurance for 6 months or until they employee find another job. If the person is fired or resign, they'll be fully responsible for their own insurance

Self employed should pay the full cost of their own insurance but should have the option to have cheap catastrophic coverages. If you do not have insurance, you should be denied treatment- period

As long as that happens, we all keep getting raped by insurance companies and hospitals....just technically indirectly, since it is really our employer who gets raped.

Not really, if people have affordable coverage without 5k deductables, they're more likely to get screens and treated early on so they don't suddenly have heart attacks and spend 40 days in the ICU
