tough to say what earning prospects are, in 1-4 years i could be at 110k +15, or at 85k +5. not sure if you know my shtick, but ive often toyed with the idea of getting a JD/MBA not sure if it makes sense tho

the vanguard target retirement funds allocate about 55% to US stocks, 35% to foreign stocks, and 10% to bonds. this is a reasonable asset allocation and you should try to target that blend across all your accounts. you can afford to take on a lot of equity risk because your job isn't tied too much to the economy. in fact, you want the market to collapse so you can buy stocks on the cheap. if you were a big lawyer or investment banker, you'd want a bit more conservative portfolio because your earnings and job security are more tied to the business cycle.

aside from that, the best thing you can do is to go to school. it will allow you to shift to a higher-paying career track. almost everything else is secondary compared to getting an education that will boost your earnings potential. an MBA is probably better than a JD.
