I once met a man with face tats. I remember having seen him on the street a few weeks before and thinking "that's a dark soul right there, somebody I'll be careful to avoid." When I met him I felt bad. Turns out he'd been trying for years to have his face tats removed because they absolutely destroyed his job prospects and made people like me judge him from across the street.

Two weeks later I see his face on the news. He's been arrested on a murder charge out of Longmont, CO for murdering his girlfriend in a canyon they were living in just outside of town. Turns out he's a violent schizophrenic but apparently one with enough foresight to cover the body in lye before disposing of it. That one act prevented the coroner from determining a cause of death. Within a few months the charges have been dropped and by the following summer he's back to living in the woods next to my apartment.
