It's not like real crim work. A lot of white collar is actually "internal investigations" i.e. doc review, rarely a chance of trial or appearing in court unless you're representing an individual defendant getting fucked by some prosecutor looking to make a name for himself. It's maybe the least cerebral type of "litigation" out there.

The part you describe as interesting is about 2% of the work. 98% of these investigations (FCPA, white collar, etc.) is doc review. Even when you're more senior, you're just the second level of doc review and you get lined edit witness interviews all day.
