90% of CS guys are going to be Indians, Asians, or weirdos. These types cannot do patent litigation well. You will have zero competition.

Being a non-weirdo white guy in CS is also a big advantage. Puts you on the path to management, MBA, startup funding, etc.

having a law degree can only help that prospect as well... I don't see why CS + T14 is a bad idea under any circumstance.

random CS white guy will not do as well as random CS white guy + law degree in the business world.

Getting a law degree will actually make people discount your CS degree, and see you primarily as a lawyer, someone to be taken less seriously when it comes to tech and business.

I supposed if you worked for some time and then went to LS as a more senior guy with tech biz experience it might not be the case. But CS degree straight to LS, you might as well be an English major.

not for Patent lit. There is only 1 dude at my firm that has a computer science degree that I'm aware of (1000+ firm) and basically anytime a case involves anything related to computers he gets work. so his hours are always like 2400+ even when the firm is slow.

otoh this sounds horrible.

Oh for actually being a lawyer in a firm, I'm sure it helps to have a CS degree over a random BS.

I just meant that trying to use the law degree in a non-law role in technology/business/etc is worse than just having the CS BS plus 3 yrs work experience.

oh I didn't pay attention to the exact back and forth. not sure about the business world, but for BIGLAW I think having the CS degree (or EE degree for that matter) is as close to having job security as you can get.

stability, prestige and more interesting work (not flame - being a patent lawyer is actually more interesting than being an engineer that works on the same project for 10 years making incremental advances)

If I did CS, I'd have gone and worked in finance then gotten an MBA. LJL at wasting your life with litigation. Litigation is probably the least desirable profession on the planet (if your ignore the money).

Admittedly have no background in it, so I can't judge how I would have been.

That said, I have elite credentials from UG and LS and an LSAT score in the mid 170s.

LSAT score doesn't really equate to engineering.

I even know a dude who was brilliant at economics but couldn't "get" a basic data structures class. Different kind of thinking. Probably why CS + JD combos are so rare, literally uses two extremes of the brain.

Probably. Even if you just did commercial lit in biglaw you'd become the go to guy for any dispute requiring a modicum of computer understanding.
