i dont think ill ever retire. maybe take some job i enjoy like vet assistant, work at a ball park, waiter at a nice place, something like that just to cover my monthly bills.
my true dilemma is that im working a job i hate in a city i hate as well for 75k. i will probably inherit at least $1m. i also have above six fig income. a growing part of me wants to quit job and just go find something i enjoy in a cooler city, and just worry about paying rent and nothing else.

DINK is the only credited lifestyle
by 40-45 I want to be retired, with a $50k wine/tequila collection and all the passive income I can handle
and go to the grave with no crotchfruit stealing my money, happiness, or time

What can you expect from life before 35? It's all the same shit. Here's my favorite quote about the "wonders" of life:
This is the great lesson the depressive learns: Nothing in the world is inherently compelling. Whatever may be really “out there” cannot project itself as an affective experience. It is all a vacuous affair with only a chemical prestige. Nothing is either good or bad, desirable or undesirable, or anything else except that it is made so by laboratories inside us producing the emotions on which we live. And to live on our emotions is to live arbitrarily, inaccurately—imparting meaning to what has none of its own. Yet what other way is there to live? Without the ever-clanking machinery of emotion, everything would come to a standstill. There would be nothing to do, nowhere to go, nothing to be, and no one to know. The alternatives are clear: to live falsely as pawns of affect, or to live factually as depressives, or as individuals who know what is known to the depressive. How advantageous that we are not coerced into choosing one or the other, neither choice being excellent. One look at human existence is proof enough that our species will not be released from the stranglehold of emotionalism that anchors it to hallucinations. That may be no way to live, but to opt for depression would be to opt out of existence as we consciously know it

im going to object to this partly, and agree in some ways, too.
it is all the same shit, as you put it. i think thats one big reason why people have kids. something new, something exciting.
now the part that a depressive learns the true nature of life is misleading. of course life happens in your brain, nothing is inherently exciting. this obvious truth does not negate the excitement you ever felt in your life. its just your brain wiring. but did you feel it? i believe the answer is as definitive as that stars exist. you did feel excitement. maybe it didnt last. you cant bring it to you at your whim. but it was there, and it was real. as real as the chair you sit on. i believe emotions are very real things, we just dont have the capacity to understand their place in reality. to say they are ephemeral or supra-imposed on true reality i think is highly mistaken and naive.
indeed emotions are arbitrary from one point of view, but not so if you inspect closer. they are not arbitrary like the roll of a dice, for example. they are in you for a reason. that you cannot use them as a shield against the emptiness of life or the sorrow or the pain at times you need it, that is the problem and what i think people want to say that emotions are arbitrary. as in, not there when you need them in your darkest hour. we were thrust into the world without the assurance that we will always feel good, or good enough. that is what the human mind is angry at.
there is nothing factual, or nonfactual in stating the truth of the world about being depressive. its a state of mind. its lack of excitement and belief in oneself. not one or the other is the real truth. they are merely states of mind. its a cop out to say when you are depressed you see life as it is, and a tautology because life is indeed nothing and empty if someone doesnt care about it, and care is a chemical reaction. when it comes, you dont throw it away, you never do. you embrace it. thats how life keeps going. it is painful for the organism to continue going on past caring and when its being depleted, but such is life.
life is pain at that point. what can one do? nothing. but you still cannot say that your depressive mind at that point is the correct view of life and reality. it is not. neither is it diseased. it is maladapted, but it is not rotten or anything. it is a trade off, for we are made of energy and matter and caring actually takes energy. there isnt an infinite supply of it. of course, if it was offered as a gift, i think no man would choose to not take it and continue being depressed.
and so by that, they are effectively saying, depression is not the real mode of reality, or a false one, it is one they would like to avoid.
but to the point of us all being deluded ultimately, to that i dare say the truth lies on the side of the author. i think we are born to be deluded and cling to hallucinations of everything being all right in the end, of all this life being right and ok. we all die, so it was all for nothing. i cannot argue with that. i think this is where it is correct to say we are all being deluded. but once you are alive and kicking, that delusion, call it as many times as you might, will not concede to being understood and categorized. it is the spring of life, it is the strongest delusion there is, and once you are born, there is no truly breaking free from it.
i realize i might be just agreeing with the whole thing of who you quoted. this person sounds smarter than me.

do any other non-human life forms have to come up with abstract justification for reproducing? what about all the half-retarded morons in the 3rd world who shit out 8 kids each?
why are you so special that you alone have to come up with abstract justification to fulfill your biological imperative?
