I pretty much move things around in commitment letters/term sheets and know what the business ideas mean and how they need to be incorporated into the credit documents. And then I scramble around to get a bunch of tasks done that are needed to close. Anyone with a BA/BS could do 99.99% of my job (and the partners' jobs too).

This has always bugged me. You'd think you'd have way more nonlaw exit opps in this practice, but you're still a "lawyer"

but you're not really doing anything on the business end, you're just working on the docs.

seems like 90% of being an associate in a transactional group is just figuring out how to get from point A to point B.

The reckoning for transactional attorneys is nigh. GC has learnt that the majority of our time is spent copy/pasting and filling in blanks and that a computer can do all that much faster than humans.

Nah, there are enough lawyers in in-house roles who like fighting about commas to justify their positions.

Also, the day of reckoning already came for transactional attorneys. People used to get paid a shitton of money to do redlines and other basic tasks that take four seconds.

Now transactional attorneys are basically paid to be one of the few people who read the most boring docs ever. A computer can't check itself and no one will trust it to for decades.

The moment of reckoning came while watching a CLE with a panel of partners at the highest end of the practice who basically just talked about how savvy they are in knowing how deals work, what's market and why certain business terms are being used in the documents. It was depressing as fuck.
