are they technically supposed to take away your private bank account if you're no longer with the firm? i left many years ago and every time they want me to talk to my 'private banker' i get nervous they'll take away my account.

Who did you ask? The private banker directly, or the people who answer the phone?

I'm gonna need to add my wife to make my account a joint account. I'm wondering if I'm gonna get trouble.

They kicked me out when I sent in paperwork to make the account into a joint account.

They have no reason to kick you out otherwise since they won’t look at your account. Don’t give them a reason to look at your account.

I wouldn’t do it if I were you. I’m ttt citigold now.

I don’t think these accounts give you any tangible benefits anyway if you invest mainly in ETFs. Beyond being able to say “I have a prestigious account”. Who gives a shit about concierge service. Maybe I’m wrong.

CR, I have Chase Private Client and other than a different ATM card and no fees on foreign ATM withdrawals I don't think there are really any benefits. However, it costs nothing and saves me the $ on foreign ATM withdrawals.

You can just get Charles Schwab (cool looking debit card too) for the same thing. Great exchange rates, no ATM fees anywhere.

Lol at private bank flame. Just use Schwab. Reimburses ATM fees worldwide and excellent fx rates.

I think u get 4 free wires a month. Lol at waiting a day for ACH.

Only true benefit would be if they get u better loan rates. Protip: negotiate this with Schwab too.

On Visa /ATM, u r getting visa rates. IB is def best for forex, but above 10k u get pretty good rates with schwab. Easier than dealing with tranferwise or some intermediary.

Can agree with that. Nice that you can wire locally for most currencies through Schwab's correspondent banks and get wholesale rate.

Done a lot foreign wires. IB def best if you want to deal with that.

same for (jp morgan private bank). maybe our firms didnt have enough business with jpm.

i still have basically all of the benefits i remember (no atm fees and atm fee reimbursement) but now it's just a regular chase account.
