I think it'll be a big hack, followed by a huge sell-off. The exchanges will freeze everything, and whenever they allow trading prices will plummet until they reach 2016 levels.

Tezos ICO raises over a billion and draws unprecedented national attention to crypto.

Something happens and some ICO people get fucked.

The SEC steps in shortly after and cracks down.

The exchanges being SPS only exasperates the crash.

I think regulators stepping in is a close, close second. I think a distant third is financial institutions announcing that they'll implement blockchain, but with their own proprietary coin.

I think your OP has already happened with Mt. Gox and won't be repeated.

Small hacks sure, but nothing as widespread as that.

We'll see. I think something on the scale of Mt. Gox happening again would scare off all the new "investors" who weren't around and paying attention when the original hack occured

Oh, I definitely agree. I just think it's extremely unlikely to occur.

Mt. Gox occurred in a time when people didn't really give a shit about information security. Now it's generally taken pretty seriously. 2FA is everywhere, as is Google Authenticator.

Fair enough-- honestly I'm surprised more individuals don't get hacked

So am I.

Although I did receive an email from the authy app saying Coinbase has had a ton of hackers spoofing numbers to bypass the 2FA, so the app disabled multiple device support for everybody as a precaution. You could turn it on again by going into the options.

This is probably the most likely outcome, given how that seems to be the pattern it's been following all along.
