...Now fast forward three and a half years, and *even if you had bought at the very top of the 2013 bubble*, as long as you just passively held onto your BTC, you would have realized a nearly 300% return on your investment by Summer 2017 (and long-since qualified for the capital gains tax break). BTC--that "worthless fake internet buttcoin"--was now trading at an all time high of nearly $3k/pop. I hasten to add that back when I was advising people to buy, I almost always made sure to note that I thought it was an inherently speculative, long-hold proposition. I fully realize that this board is full of baby Buffetts (who strangely can't seem to leave the misery of the legal profession, or even retire from the unique hell that is Biglaw, notwithstanding their profound financial acumen--odd case very interesting), but recognizing that I'm a mere mortal dipshit in comparison to most of the brilliant pumos who dominate our discourse, I'm more than happy to realize an easy ~300% return on a purely passive investment within four years. "Make sure to thank TBF," indeed.

And at the same time, Ethereum came along and literally exploded--increasing more than 1000% within 2 months. XO got excited about cryptocurrency once again--"We're gonna be rich, boys! [Early adopter and prominent XO advocate] Exeunt is a genius!"--right up until the inevitable short term market correction sent ETH crashing back to Earth, just like BTC years before. And just as suddenly, Exeunt became another dumb asshole who led everyone astray with his "obviously terrible" financial advice--just like I had way back in 2013--even though he, too, has always made a point of advising that Ethereum is an inherently speculative, long-term hold proposition.
