Lamar Dekari Stevens, 36, of San Jose, injured himself while running from police after breaking into a home in Menlo Park at 4:50 a.m. and sexually assaulting and robbing a male resident, police say. He was already on parole for a previous robbery.

San Jose used to be known as a large, boring, relatively low-crime city. Lately it's increasingly known for street gangs and criminals.

LOL @ this "accidental fall"
"A suspect in a residential burglary and sexual assault is at Stanford Hospital recovering from injuries he received in a 30-foot fall onto a roadway while fleeing police, Menlo Park police said."

An 18-year old male and three minors, one of them female, were arrested for robbing a woman on the street in the East Bay. It was the minor female who allegedly pulled a gun on the victim. Officers happened to be nearby and pursued the four offenders in a white Hyundai or Toyota. Three of the suspects are from Richmond, a small, high crime city in the East Bay.

Two hispanic males were arrested in connection with a purse snatching and an attempted purse snatching at Stanford Shopping Center. In the attempted incident two women walking in the parking lot were approached simultaneously by a Lexus containing three hispanic males, with an open passenger door, and a male on foot who tried to grab one of the women's purse, who fell to the ground and had minor injuries. When the other woman screamed the assailant gave up and left in the car. A witness noted the plate number, leading to an address in San Francisco. In both incidents the assailant was wearing a hoodie with the hood pulled tight around the face.

Both suspects had warrants for prior offenses.

Three men were observed by a resident trying to burgle cars in a gym parking lot late at night in the East Bay and were apprehended after a vehicular chase. The driver, who has a Spanish name, tried to run off and injured himself. The other two are from Oakland and are probably black.

The side windows of cars should be laminated like the windshield. It's far too easy to break the window and reach in and grab whatever.

A 19-yo male, a 15-yo male, a 14-yo male, and a 13-yo female were arrested in connection with a series of robberies/assaults on SF buses. In one case a male victim boarded a bus and was followed by a "pack of suspects who allegedly assaulted and robbed him of his cell phone."

A woman reported that she was pulled from her car and beaten by two black males when she was stopped at a red light at 5 am in Vallejo, a small, high crime city in the NE part of the Bay area. They then took off with her car.

Car doors should be locked at all times.

A black male and a Pacific islander rear-ended a 7-11 employee's car when she was going to the bank to make a deposit and seized the cash from her car. It looks like the 7-11 she worked at is in East Palo Alto but the robbery occurred in Palo Alto.
http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/08/30/robbers-target-7-eleven-employee-taking-money-to-bank-police-say/
Police were quoted as calling the robbery "unusual." There was an incident last year when a couple driving on the Pacific Coast Highway on the Peninsula were being tailgated by another car, and when they pulled over to let them pass the other car stopped behind them and a BM came out with a gun and robbed them. Then there was the incident when a woman driver noticed someone seemed to be following her, and when she unwisely went home a BM came out of the other car, broke her passenger window and seized her camera. The police were quoted as stating they were unsure if she had taken a picture of something the BM didn't want her to take a picture of, or they just wanted the camera.

Three young adults (looks like two males and a female) and a 15-yo girl were arrested after robbing a Victoria's Secret store in San Mateo, on the Peninsula, while using a stun gun to threaten the employees, and leading police on a chase that ended when they collided with another vehicle.
http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/08/30/stun-gun-used-to-rob-victorias-secret-store-in-san-mateo/
The police noted there has been an "uptick in grab-and-run thefts from retail stores," and also said the use of the stun gun was "unusual."

An 18-yo BM and a 16-yo BF are being charged with beating a woman with brass knuckles during an attempted carjacking in suburban Milwaukee.

There's no way to know what thoughts are in this young man's mind, but (based on his demeanor) my guess is that he's probably unrepentant, and perhaps doesn't understand what the big deal is.

A woman in her 60s who was visiting a relative's home in Palo Alto at 11 pm was punched in the abdomen and robbed of her purse "by two men she had seen riding bicycles in the area." The men didn't say anything and made their escape on their bikes. "Police said no similar robberies have occurred in the area recently."

You have to watch out for black males on the street. One is bad enough, two (or more) is a major warning sign. I've commented on this before.

It's LOL to listen to people from the Bay Area complaint about crime.
Baltimore has more than double the murder rate of Oakland. New Orleans, St. Louis, and Detroit too.

Smashed! Palo Alto area a hot spot for auto burglars
Affluence, tourists, business travelers draw criminals from around the Bay Area

I've commented on this before, but the side windows of cars should be laminated, like the windshield. It's much too easy for someone passing by to break the window and reach in and grab whatever. A lot of glass shops in SF are supported by the daily stream of car break-ins.

Details are sketchy, but it appears that "about 100 youth" were randomly assaulting and robbing people celebrating Halloween at the Great America theme park in Santa Clara, in Silicon Valley. At least one of the miscreants was wearing a hoodie.

"A 21-year-old San Jose man has been arrested in connection with at least seven chain-snatch robberies targeting older women of East Indian and Asian descent in the South Bay, and detectives said they believe there may be additional victims."
Article says he was arrested in 2014 in connection with a similar series of crimes, but the article doesn't say what was the disposition of that case. In the mugshot he has a slightly worried look rather than the indifferent/thuggish look that they usually have; not sure what to make of that.

Students have been targeted for robberies near UC Berkeley in recent weeks by a "robbery crew." Apparently the MO is for two people to approach the student on the street and strike up a conversation, then rob or attempt to rob them. The race of the perps is unspecified, presumably because they don't want people to get the impression that all black males are criminals and are best avoided on the street.
http://www.sfgate.com/crime/article/5-Berkeley-robbery-attempts-linked-to-organized-12364465.php
According to the article, police are advising members of the public to travel in groups and to attempt to stay in well-lighted, heavily populated areas. That's their stock advice in response to street crime, though it doesn't seem very practical. How often do you have someone handy who is going to the same place as you at the same time?

"OAKLAND — A mob of teenagers who brazenly snatch cellphones from BART riders’ hands has struck again, BART police said."
A 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of theft from a person and "was cited to his parent." A number of other teens were detained and released. The case will be forwarded to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office for possible charges.
http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/11/25/group-of-teens-strikes-again-in-bart-cellphone-snatching-thefts/
The Bay Area Rapid Transit Authority has some tips to prevent riders from having their cellphone snatched:
-protect your phone, especially near the door and while waiting on the platform
-put it away or "at least secure it" when approaching stops
-be aware of your surroundings "at all times"
They didn't say to be on the lookout for black teen males, presumably for the sake of politeness/diplomacy.

Palo Alto area a hot spot for auto burglars

"'They are coming here and doing auto burglaries and then they go back out of county to fence the property, and they do this every single day,' McKeown said."

epidemic of auto theft and carjacking by minors in Milwaukee

"What can we do as a city, as parents, as school teachers and try to discourage this?" Now that there is a first-rate question, a primo eccellente question. When they find out the answer I'll be very interested to know.
"Carjacking isn't cool, car theft isn't cool, and you're killing yourselves and other people," the group's president, Kalen R. Haywood said. Couldn't have said it better myself.
"Sometimes you've got to talk to your kids, like really, really talk to them," Turner said. "A lot of parents say, 'I'm giving up on you, just go do what you're wanna do,' but no, don't give up on them, even if they're doing something they're not supposed to do, never give up on your kids." Maybe this is the answer?? Not giving up on your kids and really, really talking to them?

The woman reported she was attacked from behind, had a drink thrown at her and was beaten, before they took her purse. The two apprehended were minors and were taken to juvenile hall. Alleged large-scale car burglary operation broken up
https://www.mercurynews.com/2018/01/31/thousands-of-stolen-laptops-recovered-in-massive-bay-area-car-burglary-scheme
Some (nine) of the people believed to be responsible for an epidemic of car break-ins on the Peninsula, the South Bay (i.e. Silicon Valley and San Jose), and the East Bay were arrested. The alleged operation was an unholy alliance (my wording) between
Vietnamese exporters shipping stolen laptops, tablets and smartphones to Vietnam out of the Port of Oakland
Hispanic fences/brokers receiving the stolen items and giving them to the exporters
Oakland street gang actually doing the car burglaries
A multicultural criminal enterprise, just like the movies! 900 devices were recovered from an 18-wheeler on the way to the Port of Oakland, 300 from two Vietnamese individuals who were flying out of San Francisco Int'l with "18 pieces of luggage," and 700 from one of the Vietnamese suspect's home. Allegedly shipments were going out monthly from the Port of Oakland. The arrested suspects have Vietnamese and Spanish names, no mention of any of the gang members though.

Undercover cops have been staking out cafes in Berkeley after a "string" of laptop seizures and will continue to do so for the "foreseeable future." "Three adults and three juveniles" were arrested after "four people" exited a vehicle, entered a cafe, and "seconds later" "two men" grabbed two laptops and "all four sprinted" back to the "getaway car." Nearby patrol officers were notified and stopped the car; the two laptops were recovered as well as "additional stolen property." "Five of the six people arrested were already on probation, police said."

In the meantime, people who go to cafes in Berkeley are "urged" to "be aware of their surroundings," "lock their devices to the table," back up their work, and purchase a tracking device for their laptop.

A cafe in Berkeley has been hit three times in three weeks.
https://www.berkeleyside.com/2018/02/02/4-laptops-taken-strada-robbery-theft-berkeley/
The Berkeley police advise cafe patrons to follow these advices:
-Be aware of surroundings [keep one eye on your laptop, one eye on your coffee or whatever, and one eye on your "surroundings"]
-Do not leave valuables unattended (especially electronic devices)
-Consider using a lock to secure electronic devices to the table
-Back up work to an external hard drive (not kept with the computer) or to the cloud
-Purchase tracking software, and remember to activate it, to aid in the location of a stolen device
-If you see something suspicious, say something immediately and call 911 [No guidance is given on what qualifies as suspicious, but if you happen to see four black males exit a vehicle and stride toward you with a purposeful look in their eyes, that's prob. not a good sign.]

Several individuals from out of state were arrested for invading three homes in Sonoma County, north of SF, apparently seeking marijuana they could take back out of state and sell. MJ is now legal in Cali but not in most other states, creating an arbitrage opportunity for enterprising young men who would rather lead a life of crime and punishment than work for a living.

Last year police were called in the East Bay by a citizen who observed a woman peering into cars in a shopping center parking lot, while being followed by a Jeep SUV. The police attempted to stop the vehicle but it fled at speeds exceeding 100 mph, and then crashed in the yard of a Montessori school. A deceased adult female was found inside the wreckage, identified as Maria Gaglione, and a second, surviving female was in the yard of the school, identified as Amy Fiasconaro. The survivor claimed that she was the passenger and the deceased female was the driver, but DNA testing of blood on the driver's airbag indicated that Fiasconaro was in fact the driver. She had meth and heroin in her system, and a criminal record, and the Jeep turned out to be stolen. The decedent's father mainly blamed the police. It was his contention that his daughter didn't know the vehicle was stolen. By this he presumably meant to imply that she was an innocent bystander who was in the wrong place at the wrong time, but no explanation was given for what they were doing casing vehicles in the shopping center parking lot, or whether she was unaware that her friend was a drug addict and criminal. The driver is being prosecuted this year for homicide, among other charges.

Black Transient Woman throws Chihuahua seven stories to its death
https://www.sacbee.com/news/state/california/article215271300.html
At first it looked like an accident.
A 4-year-old Chihuahua named Dunky was lying in the street dead when its owner returned to the garage where he had parked during lunch on Feb. 10 in San Francisco, according to police. The man first assumed his dog had somehow sneaked out of the car and then had fallen from the seventh floor of the parking garage to its death.
But then the man went up to the seventh floor and saw his Mercedes: The vehicle had been broken into, leaving shattered glass and blood everywhere, police said. Someone had also rifled through the vehicle’s glove compartment.
From the car, a trail of blood led to a ledge — and that’s where the burglar had tossed Dunky off the structure and onto the street below, prosecutors said. Police said they instantly knew who the suspect was after watching surveillance footage.
The next morning, Wakeen Best, a 35-year-old homeless woman, was arrested in connection with the dog’s death, according to police.
A jury found Best guilty on felony animal cruelty, vandalism and burglary charges on Friday, according to San Francisco District Attorney George Gascón. The trial lasted three weeks, but jury deliberations only took a day.
“This defendant showed no remorse and is responsible for the death of a little, defenseless animal,” Gascón said in a statement, adding that the verdict is “a small step toward bringing justice for Dunky.”
Best targeted the man’s Mercedes because it was “the fanciest car she saw” on the seventh story of the garage that afternoon, according to prosecutors.
But after shattering the windows, Dunky surprised Best and began barking — drawing attention to the crime in progress. That’s when Best killed Dunky, and disposed of his body by dropping him over the ledge, prosecutors said.
Video and audio from the parking garage captured the crime as it happened, according to police. The perpetrator can be heard on the video screaming profanity at Dunky for yapping, though the video doesn’t show the attacker, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
“Shut yo ass up,” the culprit yells twice at the dog in the recording, according to the Chronicle.
Meanwhile, the car’s alarm is screeching in the background.
“You a b---h,” the culprit tells the dog in the recording, according to the Chronicle.
Best’s public defender said it wasn’t her client who killed the dog or who was heard in that recording, according to the Chronicle. But the public defender did admit that another recording caught Best at the crime scene.
“We know that she knows how to do a standard smash and grab,” Deputy Public Defender Alexandra Pray said, conceding that her client has stolen from cars before, according to the San Francisco Examiner. “She is just a regular ol’ auto burglar. She’s not someone who murders animals. She’s not someone who hurts animals.”
Prosecutors wouldn’t say if Dunky died in the car on the seventh floor or during the fall, the San Francisco Examiner reports.
But prosecutors do know one thing: “Dunky didn’t have to die,” Assistant District Attorney Asha Jameson said in a statement.
Best will be sentenced on August 17, according to prosecutors.

An Oakland man who pleaded guilty to a terror-related charge after boasting about wanting to kill thousands was either plotting a Bay Area attack or trolling people online with no intention of committing violence.
Those were the competing theories laid out by the U.S. Attorney’s Office and lawyers for 23-year-old Berkeley High graduate Amer Sinan Alhaggagi during a sentencing hearing that began Monday at the U.S. District Court in San Francisco.

FREMONT — Five teens were arrested Thanksgiving night on suspicion of robbing a Target in Fremont and firing shots outside of the store when security guards confronted them, according to officials.
Officers responded about 11:38 p.m. to a report of shots fired at the Target store in the Fremont Hub, which was open until midnight for early Black Friday shoppers, according to a press release from the Fremont Police Department.
Some of the teens allegedly got into an altercation with security guards in front of the store after being stopped for allegedly stealing items such as video games. When one of the suspects drove up in a getaway car, another fired multiple rounds into the air before they piled into the car and fled, according to the press release.
Police chased the vehicle for approximately three minutes. The chase ended in the area of Central Avenue and Cedar Boulevard in Newark, according to the release.
The officers arrested one suspect who attempted to flee on foot and four additional occupants of the vehicle. At least one suspect is 17 years old and the others were 18 or 19 years old.
Officers recovered a loaded firearm and the stolen Target items from the vehicle. No one was injured, according to the release.
The case remains an active investigation and some of the suspects are still in the process of being interviewed.

xo witness, who risked physical harm. Without him/her, they 99.5% would have gotten away with this.
"an investigation revealed that a customer witnessed the women stealing armloads of clothing and shoes. The witness then started taking video of the suspects and followed them.
One of the suspects became agitated that she was being recorded, De la Vega said, and 'lunged at the witness and kicked her in the buttocks.' The witness, however, was not injured.
De la Vega said the suspects dropped some of the items as they left the store, got into a vehicle and drove away. The witness followed them into the parking lot and called police with their descriptions."
