Follow-up: if you want to get full value out of legacy pref for your kids, how much do you need to be donating?

At Yale, children of alumni got an asterix beside their names, major donors (100K-5mm/5 years) got a sentence describing their parents' donations, while the children of principal level (5mm+/5 years) donors got three paragraphs.

Well-connected applicants had to be on par with the rest of the student body or they wouldn't be accepted but if they met the SAT and GPA averages they were usually in.

Children of celebrities, royalty and major politicians were treated like principal donors.

So giving say $500/year does dick all? Either $100k or just don't bother?

How much of a boost do you think someone gets for $100k? If you're gonna spend $200k+ anyway, what's $100k more?

Like, if you are a generic strong applicant (1500 SAT, 4.0 GPA from a good high school, couple sports/music things but nothing amazing), does $100k+legacy get you in?
