The purpose of AA is to redress past wrongs against historically disadvantaged groups. Anyone with the slightest bit of intellectual honesty would admit this.
Unfortunately because of Bakke everyone has been forced to shoehorn AA into this "benefits of diversity" theory, because that's the only one the SC approved. It would've been a lot better if they had been upfront in Bakke about the true reasoning behind AA. |

Bakke's perhaps accidental subpremise is that URM UMC people and UMC white women are living a wildly different life than UMC white guys, and then at some point in the 90s gayness was also factored in maybe sort of. It's GC tokenism just like 90% black people in toothpaste ads. In reality two people of different races, genders and/or sexual orientations, but raised in the same part of the country, in the suburbs, and both UMC are largely duplicative of each other since the suburbs are such a homogenized, monocultural mode of living.
