Of course there's a fucking link
After Charlottesville, CEOs have become our public conscience. Here's what that says about capitalism in America.
In the aftermath of the white nationalist violence in Charlottesville, Virginia — and Donald Trump’s controversially tepid response — a surprising group has emerged as the self-proclaimed voice of public morality: corporations.
...
We affirm our values — and identity — at the shopping till as much as, or more than, the altar.

Silent about what, a Vox article, that came out yesterday?
U argued strenuously there wasn't a left wing media bias (which many hillaroy-mos even admit)
Maybe it's time to hang up your skates on politics

Ezra Klein must be giddy.
But seriously, this isn't shocking since the outlook toward religion over the past 20 years became "choose the faith that works for you!" instead of focusing on which doctrine (if any) seems to make the most sense from a philosophical or theological standpoint.
Religion became a tool for self-affirmation. And then when religion became taboo, something had to fill the gap.

There's one really important part of the article that ends up defeating the main thesis:
But it’s worth comparing Airbnb, Google, or any other corporation whose stated morality can easily change with what’s trending on Twitter, with its polar opposite in terms of approach to public opinion: the Catholic Church, a body that has, by and large, steadfastly resisted altering its doctrines to reflect a given cultural mood, even when many of its members might like it to.
Churches say, morality is X. You need to fix your life to comply with X. Companies think, what do our customers like? Then decide that's what morality is. In other words, they aren't setting rules, they're following what they believe the crowds already want. It's very different.

i think the trad/novus ordo division is becoming increasingly narrowed. liberal congregations are empty and more traditional novus ordo priests and churches are packed. so what's happening is the liberal branch is dying off and what's left are decreipt "parochial vicars" who give a mass at 5pm to 10 people.
the emptying of the church is making it a bit stronger and more reverent for those who stayed. once that branch of "liberal church" figured out that you don't need the mass to do the liberal things, they stopped going and giving their children formation. what you see in churches now are much more orthodox parishoners than you did 25 years ago. i say this from following the catholic media and personal experience. shit, without going too in depth, i had a nun who ran a school recently tell me that they won't allow the boy scouts to use their property anymore because "they've lost their way".
mother angelica did more to make the church orthodox again than any prelate ever could imagine.

“There is nothing on the internet,” he says, not a forum, a comments section of a news site, or a social media platform used to coordinate political protest events, “that isn’t owned by somebody.” In other words, political discourse and discourse about social goods is shaped at every level, for better or for worse, by companies with a financial interest in that discourse.
WRONG, bitch. there is still one site left that isnt operated by a financial conglomerate. rach benefits, bitch.
