here's what you do. you take the two financial aid packages and you put them on the table. you then light them on fire and put them in the sink.
then, you apply to CC with some type of hard STEM. you murder it. get As. transfer to a good school.

you work for a CC?
how much hard STEM stuff does your CC offer?
I looked at the hard STEM offerings at CCs a while back (not CA, where I guess the CC system is more developed)
and the options in terms of credits you could transfer into an engineering program or CS program at the big state school were pretty shitty
you could probably knock out all the gen ed requirement, but actually getting classes that would count towards a STEM major past the intro classes weren't that good
to get an engineering degree or a CS degree, you were probably still looking at 3 more years
(this was 10 or so years ago, so maybe they've really improved the offerings since then, idk)

When i applied to college it was a joke to get into uc..admissions rate was like 40% and avg sat was low
I would never pick a school w/o a good engineering program. There is pretty much no reason to go to school otherwise.
Most majors are unemployable..just do CS or EECS and get paid 120k starting at 22 easily

this is a shitty straw man in these conversations
there's a middle ground between grew up in a trailer park, so the Ivy's will just comp tuition
and parents are millionaires who are totally price insensitive
----------
the vast majority of students who will qualify for any of these schools have parents who are right in the zone to soaked of a substantial percentage of their net worth
think, parents combined make $150K or so

If money is no object, obviously Chicago.
If the choice is between < 10,000/y and > 60,000/y, obviously Berkeley.

They're not academically equal: anachronistic shitlib flame.
Exclusivity does matter, for the same reason that you'd rather go to CLS than GULC, work at BCG than PWC.
It's a signal of socioeconomic class, intelligence, and work ethic.
