I don't think they ever actually go and check with your optometrist. I've ordered contacts from the US doing this and I am pretty confident they aren't ringing up my Australian optometrist.
Annual inspections are not mandatory here but I get one free one a year via evil socialised single payer healthcare so I do go. |

What doctors really don't like is when you ask to see your medical records. You'll have to file a complaint with the state medical board for that.
