I've never heard of that, but it wouldn't be impossible. You could theoretically purchase the right to be a non-economic member of a PLLC or something like that and then apply that toward equity if it ever happens to come.

i do traditional labor (and some employment). i'm about to make partner at a v60ish firm where all partners have at least some equity component to their comp. we don't pay lockstep (but first years are paid $180k). from what i've heard i'll likely make in the 320-340k range my first year as partner. how TTT is this?

it's pretty tough to make a traditional labor practice work at a biglaw firm. the most senior partners in my group bill out at around $650, which is obviously low. but people aren't paying $800 an hour (for the most part) for a lawyer to litigate NLRB cases and negotiate union contracts.
