it's a beta distribution curve with a = b = 4. scores are 0-1 so multiply by 10.

gives a nice standard deviation of 1.667, but fits in a finite range unlike the normal curve. 9.9s are EXCEPTIONALLY rare at 1 in 3 million. 99th percentile is ~8.5.
