It's impossible to defend are culture. The speed of its descent is mind-blowing. The US Armed Forces should lay down their weapons. Nothing worth saving here. They're only fighting for BIGCORP. The only ones of us who will be worth saving are those of us who join convents and monasteries and stop buying this stuff. Those young people who do not opt out should probably take up arms against everyone older than 30 and put us all to the sword.

It was either the summer of 1992 or 1993, and me and a couple of brothers, Steve and Nate from 2 doors down, had graduated from my dad's Ridgid calendar and looking at the older girl across the street in binoculars when she would wash the car. We were ready.

There was this shitty kid, whose name I am blanking on, who lived in a cul-de-sac that was accessible through our back yards. He had often boasted of his dad's collection in his garage, and as it so happened, he and his family were out of town. I doubt that they were on much of a vacation--no one around us had much money--but for whatever reason, Steve was assured they wouldn't be back today.

The garage door was locked, but the side window was not. We boosted Nate up--actually kind of flung him through--and told him to go get the ladder and pull the hanging chain. He did, and the three of us opened the garage door--me and Steve from the outside, Nate from the inside. Why the 3 of us didn't go through the window, I don't know.

Anyway, we figured it would take all day to find them. It took about 2 minutes. An old, musty cardboard box shoved into the corner--it was clear that they weren't getting much use, which surprised us given how horny this kid was (turns out he had pornos on VHS, which we would find a few years later). The dad clearly didn't care, because the most recent issue was from the late 80s.

But whatever, there they were. Pretty women, almost all white, stretched out on red satin sheets or across chaises, some with boob jobs and dye jobs, but mostly not. There were actually just a lot of women with natural (albeit gorgeous) looks.

And we sat there for maybe half an hour, just thumbing through, making preposterous comments that would come off as campy if you were writing the script for a nostalgia TV show now, like "aw, fuck yeah!" and "check out the tits on this one!"

We put them away--autist that I was, I ensured that we arranged them back in the same (random) issue order in the box. We pulled the garage door back up, exited, and (of course) left the thing unlocked. Nate wasn't sure he could hoist himself back up to the window if on the inside, and actually going into the house felt like a bridge too far for this little escapade. Nothing ever came of the unlocked garage door (that we knew of, anyway). The odds on that would have been vanishing.

We went back to Steve and Nate's place, because their dad had a Nintendo (no one yet had an SNES in the neighborhood, even though it had been out for a while), and played Duck Hunt and Excitebike.

Anyway, a comparable experience today would be what? I supposed it'd be a 10 year old kid coming across a post on his Tumblr dashboard that a "trap" is now in Playboy. This would strike him as totally unremarkable, given that he already knows 2 in school. He used to know them as, what? Jayden and Shane? Now they're Allison and Clara. He wonders what they look like "down there," and feels a twinge of guilt that he doesn't like the thought of their boy parts like he likes the thought of girl parts.
