genetically, northern and southern italians are very similar. northern italians, even those directly bordering switzerland, are more similar to southern italians than anyone else in europe... there have been numerous studies on this.

it is not surprising that italians have high iq's when you consider the fact that many are descendants of advanced western civilizations like the Roman empire... and that italians were far more advanced in astronomy, engineering, philosophy, art, etc. etc., than many other western europeans.

the issue with italian americans is more cultural (see Jersey Shore) than pure IQ. they have a propensity to have high iq's but shit culture can impact this. See Scalia.
