I have not seen ND with a killer instinct since the height of the Holtz years. The typical ND team, having jumped out to a 28 point lead over a rival, would have ended last Saturday's game with a score like 42-35, giving up garbage touchdowns all second half.
Im stunned to see them with the second string depth and team culture to murder opponents.

It's not that they're disrespected, but I don't think people appreciate how outstanding the offensive line is. I'm talking from a star standpoint (Quenton Nelson should be the highest drafted pure guard in a long time and McGlinchey will be a top ten pick, though he should move to the right side), a role player standpoint and a depth standpoint.
The back-up OL is mauling people late in games. Adams is getting tons of credit and heisman hype now, but man, watching the entire middle of the field open up the way it did on that 86 yard run Saturday night is incredible. It's why they're hammering teams. The pass heavy past teams went in to slow down mode and stopped scoring. This team is going to break a 60+ yard TD when you bring everyone up to the line.
Also, I'm not shocked by the defensive turn around. Van Gorder was stunningly terrible. Getting a legitimate DC would have made them competent. Elko is a very good DC and you're seeing what that can do. He's taking guys that couldn't get on the field for Van Gorder's defense (Morgan, Jay Hayes, Trumbetti) not even young guys, guys who weren't playing as RS Sophs and as RS juniors are outstanding.
