Self employed so I pay about $1,000/month for a decent (but not great) plan for a family of four. This is not through shitty Obamacare, because those plans were even worse and more expensive. Instead, this is just a privately offered plan.

Got a notice that my premium is going up to $1,250/month and my deductible is going up 500%.

I looked around and every other plan is also SPS. Either more expensive or just slightly cheaper but with huge premiums and pure deductibles (no co-pays), so it's essentially catastrophic insurance. On those plans, you pay $900 per month and are responsible for the first $6,000 of health costs PER PERSON before any insurance kicks in.

Fuck this shit.

Healthcare plans for big employers that once used to be a real benefit have declined in quality and gone up massively in costs. It’s a huge change from even a decade ago.

My dad is a retired Hopkins professor and Hopkins used to have fabulous plans for retirees but in the last 10 years they’ve done everything to push retirees off the Hopkins plans by massively increasing the premiums that it makes no sense to stay on it.

What, specifically, are you referring to? The governors had almost no role in this except for choosing to not build their own state exchange (which the law allows them to do) and opting into/outof Medicaid expansion (which the law also allows them to do). The GOP-led Congress has nothing to do with Obamacare. It was passed with no GOP votes. Democrats have 100% accountability for this law. If Democrats wanted some other law, they should have passed that instead. But they wanted Obamacare and here we are. Skyrocketing premiums is the direct result of the health care policy drafted, passed, and managed by democrats without any republican influence or intervention. The dems own it, 100%.

Meanwhile in reality, Obamacare is a democrat party plan, passed by democrats, signed into a law by a democrat. What is happening now is 100% on them. They may be able to deflect blame, but what we have here is very clear proof that the democrat party cannot craft coherent public policy. They were hoping they could buy votes while buying off the donor class. Instead they broke the healthcare system.
