Grails is essentially Coldfusion 2.0 with convention over configuration principals. The build automation / class loader is pretty nice. As a very senior developer spending most of my career inside the JVM I really want to like groovy but I can't seem to find a use for it. If I need to script something I will use bash. I've written a few new relic and Jenkins plugins in groovy, and some Oracle process cloud deployment scripts
TBH Grails really just combines all the shit everyone uses in your typical enterprise java application such as ORM, dependency management, build management, deployment management, frontend tags and templates, etc. If you don't know Spring IoC, Hibernate, Spring MVC you can't really say Grails is simple because you don't even know how it works |
