The city got really cleaned up during Daley's administration, but it still has structural problems that it's been unable to address due to the city's corrupt politics and inhospitable terrain for small businesses. Chicago has also tried way too hard to be the "next NYC" rather than focusing on its unique strengths as a low-cost, high quality of life, midwestern city. In the past few years alone, I have seen firsthand the city losing its grips. Crime in the nice upscale parts of Chicago has gone up dramatically, with muggings and random attacks happening in areas like gold coast and river north, which were unthinkable 5 years ago. Hopefully Mayor Emmanuel can not only curb crime but also take bloomberg's lead by investing in a diverse array of industries and working to lure companies and research centers to Chicago. Date: November 24th, 2017 12:55 AM Author: yapping useless brakes Bars in Chicago are especially bad in this regard; it's like 70% guys, and they're wearing dirty shirts and a sports cap. That scene was fine when I was 21, but it really pisses me off when I'm in that kind of environment.
Even the upscale clubs here are reasonably easy to get into, unless it's brand new like Manor, and is thus really hot. After about 6 months or so, it gets filled up with dudes again. Crowd control is definitely a major problem here.
There are a lot of hot girls at these clubs, especially Rino and Y-Bar, but most of them don't look too classy. It's really hard to find "model" types in Chicago unless you're a part of the "IN" crowd. A friend of mine, who's the biggest player I know, told me that the hottest girls he's seen in Chicago were actually at house parties, not clubs. According to him, a lot of the really hot girls don't like to drink and prefer low-key activities on the weekends. I thought it was an interesting observation. |

Wharton places better than Booth with regards to MBB consulting, on a per capita basis. The difference is actually substantial from what I've seen. And although Booth is rapidly rising, Wharton still has a better name, worldwide reputation, and a stronger network. On the other hand, harper center is amazing, and Chicago is a much better city than Philly. From a social standpoint, my friends at Booth did not feel that the flexible curriculum impeded their social lives. The thing about b-school is that there's so much stuff going on, you can easily find activities and people to hang out with. It's basically non-stop partying and travelling for 2 years.
Wharton does have a better social scene than Booth though. The latter is definitely dorkier while the former has a lot more attractive girls and a student body that is much more inclined to excessive partying. |
