OFS
it's not even close
and nothing else in sports even approaches March Madness

It's not better.
The games can be more exciting because there are way fewer of them, so each game matters more and also the crowds are packed with young people going nuts. March Madness is also probably the most exciting sports post-season of any sport. The stakes are at the highest in every game, and for many/most there's no next time.
But the quality of play is nowhere near the NBA. This can't really be disputed.

I am conceding that college basketball has superficial excitement factors and if someone really enjoys that aspect as opposed to seeing the best basketball players in the world then sure, I can see why someone might prefer college to pro bball.
It's also fun to root for your team if they are good because it is a tight knit community that you really feel part of as opposed to just generally rooting for the pro team in your geographic area.
I like watching the incredible shit NBA players can do and appreciate watching the highest level of play. I like the long season, I like the long playoffs.

Just as an example, Duke averaged 71 possessions per 40 minutes (1.775 possessions per minute) last year.
Average pace in the NBA this season is 98 possession per 48 minutes (2.05 possession per minute) and that's just the average so several teams are even playing faster.
It's fine if you like the college game better, but I just prefer the NBA aesthetically.

I can't stand how DIRTY recruiting is and I cannot stand the college basketball celebrity journalist culture (Dick V) who tacitly approve of the Calipari's of the world doing shady things. Even promotes them as role model coaches. It's a bunch of street nigs who don't want to go to class, all going to the same 5-10 schools, and over time basically only 5-10 schools ever really have a shot at winning a title. I think the tournament is a lot of fun, but in the end, it's always going to be one of a few schools. I particularly hate how Kentucky recruits, how Duke seems to get treated by refs, how kids are picking schools based on the fucking corporate ties, the AAU shenanigans, and in some ways how your entire year is judged by March which in some ways devalues the entire season. Long rant there, but I was thinking about it during yesterday's State Farm games in Chicago with Duke, MSU, KU, and UK ... it's basically two tiers: a few super elite NY Yankee like clubs competing for players from the ESPN top 50, all sharing Final 4 bids and titles, and then the other tier of "also rans"
It brings me to tears to think about how close some of the "also rans" have gotten, but almost in every single case, the "blue blood" wins the title
WHY BOTHER? All that remains of a Wichita State magical season is some banner in their gym -- dude's lost in the Sweet 16
but obviously aside from the tourney I love how it allows for smaller schools to field something competitive, much easier to do it in basketball than football, and there are some magical moments ... but on the whole I don't think an ordinary tuesday night Iowa State vs TCU game is going to be any better than the Raptors vs the Bulls or something -- March upsets is what gets people hooked to the college game ... I just wish it weren't dominated in the end by the same revolving door of schools

but that's kind of my point
they won't win it all. Duke, KU, Kentucky will, and it's the same schools who basically get remembered for "winning" the season, the accomplishment of WSU would be basically whatever WSU fans remember
there's a slight emphasis on just being in the final four, so that's validation within itself, but I doubt anyone is like omg, Oregon basketball! because of last year
this is sort of a weird critique that I'm on ... my biggest problem is the dirty recruiting that happens ... I just happen to hate how the same schools always win and all the sport cares about is that tournament's ending

I think there's something to be said that in both NBA and NFL the players are almost too good, there is too much preparation and scouting and too much efficiency.
What this leads to is minimal strategic differences. Every team in the NFL is running pretty close to the same offense, with some slight variations (Chiefs and Eagles this year are doing things a bit differently, not sure who else, I honestly don't watch a ton of NFL).
It's similar w/ the NBA. The lack of zone as a legitimate option creates offenses where it's just basically down screen, 2-man, diagonal on a double, ball screen. You don't see much of a motion offense by anyone.
I think there's something to be said for a larger discrepancy between the best and worst players on the court/field and having to account for bigger mismatches frequently.
Also, I watch college football/basketball and it's a bunch of shit I can't do, just like the pro level. The fact that they're doing shit that's even more beyond my capabilities, doesn't impact my viewing a whole lot more.

one cool thing about all college sports, especially bball, are the venues
hard to match in the NBA

I grant you MSG
OKC's arena? srsly?
College ball has some amazing venues but even the SHIT ones, like Northwestern's which is a high school gym, make the game feel a little more intense
