I read yesterday that it would take either $2100 or 4500 hours to fully unlock everything in the game.
Basically, people are fed up with microtransactions in $60 video games, this game milked the fuck out of it, and gamers are responding to an extreme extent (e.g. death threats to EA Games people on twitter and email) |

EA has been repeatedly voted worst company in America.
EA has a history of acquiring successful developers, driving them into the dirt, then closing them.
EA owns the Star Wars license. It recently shuttered another studio working on a single player focused Star Wars game. The public explanation was basically “we can’t make enough money on this game, so we’re going to try to make it a multiplayer game with microtransactions instead.”
EA launches Battlefront 2 with an absurd microtransaction model that combines pay-to-win mechanics with extreme grinding to incentivize players to pay up. People are upset on the internet.
EA responds on Reddit with some terrible PR line about wanting to make sure players feel “a sense of accomplishment” for earning (or buying) items. This comment quickly becomes the most downvoted comment in Reddit history by a huge margin.
When the internet loses its shit, EA drops the prices (in in-game fake currency) of its unlocks by 75%, suggesting it had massively inflated the numbers to see how much players would tolerate. |
