I said, "China? why are you living in China?" with an annoyed and exasperated look, the guy replied, "bc that's where we found jobs." that was the end of our convo. didn't even get a chance to ask them what kind of work they did. I had ruined their vacation by unintentionally reminding them not only of what they were escaping from but where they had escaped to.
