Ouch.

In 2010, 87,900 people applied for the fall term. 35,863 of them had LSAT scores of 160 or higher. (160 is the 80th percentile on the test.). Approximately 53,500 people have or will apply for admission to ABA law schools this fall. About 14,065 of them will have LSAT scores of 160 or higher. This is a 61% decline. Meanwhile, the total number of applicants with LSAT scores below 150 (the 50th percentile) has increased from 12,300 to 18,725.

motherfucker. the profession would be so much better off if it made 160 lsats a prerequisite to attending law school.

maybe i'm wrong. maybe 155s are capable of practicing law, but i'll leave that for the dumbs to argue

it's interesting that a 170 would make a logical fallacy like this. almost as if you didn't get a 170.

Nothing about law school is any kind of reliable predictor of your likelihood of getting The Talk. It all comes down to 1) is there a partner who likes you and feeds you work and makes a trusted midlevel/senior associate train you, and 2) can you get things done on time and not make tons of sloppy errors. If you have 1) and 2) you can last until year 5 in relative comfort. If you have 1) but not 2) you will last at least a couple years and many can still make it to inhouse. If you have 2) but not 1) you can last as long as you hustle and your firm and practice area aren't TTT/really slow. In terms of the actual IQ demands of the job it's literally mental effort that a mediocre high school student could manage for the first 18-24 months.
