Inese L. Sang was born in Latvia but considers Shanghai her second home. After a year of scholarship at Shanghai Fudan University, she fell in love with Shanghai, decided to relocate, and worked as a translator and interior designer for the next 10 years. She is a passionate book-worm and amateur photographer, who also translates Chinese contemporary literature and occasionally contributes to a Latvian magazine of independent thought and philosophy on Chinese social and cultural matters. With a degree in Sinology and Interior Design, she speaks Latvian, English, Mandarin Chinese (putonghua), Russian, some Shanghainese and conversational Japanese. She currently lives in Canada with her Canadian-Chinese husband and her year-and-a-half old son, who is being raised in a tri-cultural and eclectic environment. Her house is living proof of a diversity of cultures living harmoniously under the same roof.
