Took a deep dive of the PF discography, always hated them. Was very surprised at the avant garde shit on the first two records. I liked Syd Barrett's contributions and he seemed like a cool lunatic. Would never listen to the albums again, but they were fun. "Jugband" and "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" were the only stand-outs.

Then in the early 70s really, really bad shit happened. 23 minute songs in four "suites", obscure movie soundtracks, endless noodling and experimentation that goes nowhere.

Just arrived at DSOTM, which believe it or not I had never listened to straight through. Still dislike PF, a band that is over-serious, dry and stuffy. But its a great listen, good record that was crafted with purpose.

They swing for the fences and they hit a big one here. I can see why 2 billion lonely teenagers latched on. Reminds me of Born to Run in its ambition. 70s dudes really wanted to create The Greatest Rock Record and I salute that vision
